MIDI, MP3, Wave, Capital Music Center, 512-458-1933, www.capmusic.com Hi. My name is Britt. I want to help you understand MIDI files and the benefits they offer from the piano teacher / piano student point of view. MIDI files were created for musicians and standardized in the late ’80s. Piano teachers soon discovered the benefits of MIDI files and how they could help piano students overcome the many challenges of piano study, especially a) learning to keep steady rhythm; b)learning to read notes and continually improving note reading; and c) making students, especially beginners, sound more musical. Think of this…if band students were required to take 3 years of private lessons on an instrument BEFORE they could be in the band, most people would quit. It is more musical to learn in a group. MIDI files give piano students the experience of playing in a band, orchestra or ensemble. There are about 1500 books that come with MIDI files and there are thousands of MIDI files available for purchase on the Internet. So here are important things for you to know about MIDI files. 1. What’s the difference between MIDI files, wave files & mp3 files? 2. Why are MIDI files superior for learning? 3. What is a MIDI file? 4. Why does the sound quality of a MIDI file vary by where it’s played? 5. Isn’t there equipment that will transpose or slow down a CD or MP3? 6. Will MIDI files go away? 7. How do I acquire MIDI files? 8. Why do most books have a floppy disk with MIDI files? 9. How do …

Question: What to do with my About Me?
i have a pretty small profile and i have “My loves” “My favorite books” “My favorite movies” and “My favorite music” all in separate drop-down lists. And then under that i have a scroll bow with my favorite quotes. Now i want to know what to do with my About Me section. i don’t want it to just be there like it is because it takes up too much space and looks weird. So is there anything else i could do with it?(:
Also, my About Me says;
“Last time i checked, my name’s Samantha.
My friends mean everything to me so you better not mess with them.(:
i love to text, but no one ever texts me, so i don’t have to worry about it.
I’m pretty ADHD if you ask me.
Just remember something before you go calling me names…it takes one to know.(:
i know i’m a b*tch so it’s not an insult to me.
i don’t tell everything to many people, so you should feel special if you’re one of the few i do.(:
When i have nothing to say, i normally say “potato” or “monkey”.
Potato monkey!”
is there anything you think i should change around with it? Thanks in advance!

Question: What should I do about my water damaged MacBook?
Making a long story short: my cat knocked about a cup of water on my closed MacBook. Unfortunately, the water ran down the side where the ports are (left side). It was on, but connected to the power cord and in sleep mode.
Now it wont power on. The side with the ports smell like something burned.
I have done a bit of homework and I have heard various answers. Some say: it’s gone, destroyed. buy a new computer.
Some say it caused a part to short, and the part is fried, but it can be repaired, albeit, not cheaply.
Others say it can be repaired but it is not worth it.
I have heard that Apple charges $ 300 for a diagnostic fee, even if they come back and tell you it’s dead. I could put that money towards a new computer, and sell the old one for parts.
The other thing is, I have a 200 GB harddrive, with all my photos, music, movies. At the very least, I want to be able to retrieve the data on the harddrive.
Now I live in NYC and have a choice of 3 Apple stores, as well as a TekServe.
Tek Serve is good, they are an authorized Apple repair facility. They also are a bit less “by the book” than Apple (as in, might be able to replace the fried part with a gently used one etc)
Also the computer is 2.5 years old (purchased in Aug. 2006). Would it be more worth it to buy a new computer, and pay the cost of salvaging the info on the harddrive?
Or is it worth my while to try to get it repaired at Tek Serve?
Oh… and where can a get a nice burlap sack to take my cat to the nearest river.. (Just kidding. I have already forgiven him)

THis is going to sound stupid..
get a baking pan… fill it with uncooked rice… leave the macbook in there over night. .
This doesn’t work you may have to replace the board which is quite a bit pricey. Tek Serve is pretty good though, I work in NYC I have brought a computer there before.
As for the buying a new one…
think about it this way…
The non-unibody macbook
is only 999 bucks…
it is probably almost twice as fast…
so if you need the speed it might be worth it.
if you don’t… you’re machine is salvageable…
I cracked my logic board once.. and it wasn’t worth it though… I hope your situation leaves you with some options.
Question: Question about Reason (Drum Machines/Kits)?
First of all I’ll say I know nothing about Reason, and I have no training in music whatsoever. That being said please provide an informative answer if possible (not: “go read a book”).
Whenever I use my MIDI keyboard (LPK25) with Reason, I can’t seem to make sound with drum machine/kits using the MIDI. I can make sounds with individual instruments/effects, even percussion instruments, but I can’t get any sounds out of kits/machines.
Do I need to select a specific instrument to be used with a kit/machine? Each time I press a key on the MIDI, a corresponding “mute” key lights up for 1-10 of the samples (they’re not muted). Obviously I don’t know what I’m talking about and I’m sure this is confusing, but please shed some light if you can.
I’m willing to provide further details/information if it will help. Thanks.

Question: Is there really something so wrong about liking the dark side of things?
Technically, i don’t think I am emo or goth.
This is me:
-I like black. Its just been how I always am. I wear a lot of it but its not the only color i love. I mix it up with other colours.
-I have a very vintage look, not too many skirts but i like frilly lacy tops. Thats not emo. Maybe a bit gothic… no, its not.
-I like music like rise against, all time low, escape the fate, before their eyes, evanescence, paramore, etc. But I’ve always liked them.
-I like reading dark books. I loved twilight before everyone else did and people said to me only emo’s read that book and now every girl on the planet loves edward. ![]()
-I like watching horror movies (nothing too scary though, i get nightmares lol.) but i prefer comedy.
- i love quotes like:
That is not dead which can eternal lie yet with strange aeons even death may die.- H.P. Lovecraft
So what if i like quotes like that…
-i’m very cynical, not bothered and sarcastic, but thats always been me.
-i like deep things (poetry, books, songs, ect)
If you meet me, you’ll think I’m normal but my closest friends make fun of me, asking me “If you say your not goth and your not emo, what do you call what you are then?” or “Ohmygod another vampire book!” or “You look like a emo racoon with all that eyeliner”. My best friend made me a card just for a laugh (her laugh). It was a red love heard and she drew around it in black and did dripping blood and i said to her “Thats a scary looking card” and she goes, “aren’t you proud of me! Its emo! Like you!” ![]()
I don’t know what to do, am i really so weird? I know they are joking but still, it kinda hurts that they see me that way. I am completely normal but when i show them something i like that is foreign to them, they call it emo. And they recently discovered the word goth and that is like my new name?
Am i so weird? What should I do?

Question: Would you mind critiquing a song I wrote about my father?
I need some critiquing on a song I wrote. Fellow musicians/songwriters, how can I improve my song?
I have been writing songs for half a year now, but I still consider myself a beginner. All my songs are based off of life experiences. I have written a new song inspired by a part of childhood (approximately from age 11-16) and other things like my father who is a recovering alcoholic and had been in and out of prison. Would you mind helping me by telling me what you liked/what I could improve upon? The melody is a little strange. I don’t really read/write music well, but I asked my friend, Josh, who’s in a band what key this was in and he said the key of E but I don’t know if that helps much. Also, please don’t laugh at this. My friends laughed at me when I showed them this but they have no idea what it’s been like for me having to live with my father after my mother left him for another guy. So, please just read and critique.
“Pleasures are of Dandelions and Critters in the Park (My Father Always Knew)”
At the ripe young age of 11,
I asked my father, my dear sweet father who was once arrested for indecent exposure,
“Father may we go to the park?”
He said, “First my son, my sunny sunny son son, I would like to go read a book. A book.”
He said, “A cook book”
I said, “Father but you never ever ever ever cook except when company is over…and we have no company today”
He said, “I know.”
“I know.” My father always knew. The way to land himself in jail,
Or steal and read all my neighbor’s mail,
Or when it was going to hail,
Oh yes. My father always knew.
We arrived at the park around 3:24pm,
Things started going bad,
My father made me sad,
By yelling at some little boy’s mum.
He said, “You’re pretty hot!”
She said, “Oh please, sir. Oh please, sir. You must go away now. You’re scaring-
Oh yes. Oh yes, you’re scaring my son.”
But my father didn’t care. He spit in her hair.
And pushed her little son down on the ground.
He told me to run,
He said, “You are my son.”
I said, “I know.”
He said, “I know, too”
Oh yes. My father always knew. He always said the right thing.
And he took me under his wing,
And he taught me to sing,
Thank you father…Please pass, oh yes, please pass, oh yes please pass…the cookies.
And pleasures are of dandelions and critters in the park.
They make me feel alive and free, like my father on a cold Tuesday morning.
He loved to scream and shout, and build igloos in the yard. He also liked sports.
And he knew…
Oh yes, my father always knew.
My father always, he always always even in March, my father always knew.
I am sobbing now thinking about about my father in rehab. I know he’s doing well though. He sends letters all the time. This song is just a draft. I plan on singing it to him when he gets out of rehab in a few months. Please tell me what I can do to make him love it.
Thank you,
Phil
If anybody has any ideas about a possible melody for this song, I would greatly appreciate it if you made a video and then sent it to me…Bless you all.

I think it’s really, really good!
You definitely have a talent. I know how you feel, about your dad and everything. My dad went to rehab, quite a few times, and also jail, quite a few times. I had to bail him out of jail once, when I was only twelve with my big brother.
But coming from this perspective of someone who also went through father issues, I completely relate to this and I think so many others would, too. It’s awesome. ![]()
Keep up the good work.

That’s a real nice song and would sound well set to an electronic style melody.
