Question: I’m learning to play the piano, have a couple questions?
In school I played the violin and the flute. A year ago my cousin’s downsized and they gave me a piano so I finally decided to teach myself to play, now I have a couple questions.
1) When should I become concerned with tempo? At the moment I’m still doing well to find the notes without staring at the keys a full minute between each note.
2) Would a metronome help or hinder learning? My violin instructor seemed to think metronomes were the downfall of civilization and my flute instructor thought they were the greatest.
3) Can I play violin or flute music on the piano? I only have a few sheets of piano music but I have folders and folders left over from flute and violin.
I have no idea if this is the right place for this question. If it’s not and someone could direct me, thank you.

1. As soon you become confident on how to finger each key correctly, you should then practice playing them “in tempo”.
2. After you can play a melody correctly at a slow tempo (by manually counting/tapping 1, 2, 3, 4, etc) you should consider using a metronome. They are a great tool for playing in rhythm, correctly and consistently.
3. Yes you can, although flute music is single note, only. By using the violin / flute music that you are familiar with, it might make the transition to the piano easier.
Question: Know any cool jazz/jazzy songs to play on the piano?
Hello there! I’m an advanced pianist (been playing for a good 6-7 years) and I’ve been looking to play some jazz songs on the piano.
What are some songs you know that aren’t extremely hard, but are manageable and nice sounding?
P.S. Links to free piano sheet music would be nice too! Thanks a bunch!
